Introducing Aetrex: Comfort Driven by Data

When you’re in the business of comfort footwear there are some names you hear about as much as you say. There are indeed shoes so synonymous with providing all day support that they inevitably enter most discussions we have with customers searching for the right fit. Ask our staff and they’ll tell you: all roads lead to the same destination – the same list of reliable and comfortable shoes people in-the-know have been wearing for years.

Be it because customers are following a recommendation from their podiatrist, because they’ve seen a friend or someone they work with wearing them, or just thanks to regular old word of mouth, this year we’ve heard the name Aetrex finding its way into our conversations more and more often.

We welcomedAetrex to our Footgear range towards the end of last year, and we’ve been extremely happy with the feedback we’ve received. Our customers have made it clear that these shoes are making an active difference in their every day, and our staff are overjoyed that they finally get to answer the question “Do you stock Aetrex?” with a smile and a comfortable shoe in hand, ready to be tried on.

Comfort backed by decades of experience

Aetrex has designed products made to properly support customers on their feet for more than 70 years now. It’s that industry experience combined with their software informed design principles that have garnered them a reputation for creating comfortable and reliable footwear. They’re guided by the same foundations many of our other most popular brands follow, incorporating arch support and a well cushioned footbed into all their designs. But it’s how they implement these core principles that sets them apart.

Practically every decision that goes into designing an Aetrex shoe is data driven. Over the past twenty years the company has based their decisions off data they’ve collected from over 50 million foot scans. That’s why Aetrex shoes are so widely praised. They’re not just following the principles of podiatry; they’re combining them with their own research in order to make comfortable shoes that can work for everyone. Of course, that’s not to say that every shoe will work for every person but chances are, if your foot is similar to one of the 50 million others they’ve scanned, the Aetrex range probably has something to offer you.

Which Aetrex shoe is right for you?

Whether it’s because the Australian Summer is likely to last well past it’s due date, or because you’re gearing up for a holiday on the other side of the equator, if you’re looking for a new sandal worth your while, the Vania is a great choice. It’s nice and cushioned right out of the box and will tailor itself to the way you walk over time thanks to its memory foam footbed. As with all Aetrex shoes, they sit in the perfect intersection between comfort and style, giving you the look of a nice big buckle strap, but with adjustable Velcro hidden underneath. If you want to pair your nice new dress with a stylish summer sandal but still want to feel supported and comfortable throughout your day you don’t have to compromise! Check out our colour range here and start deciding which shoe will pair best with your outfit!

Prefer a little height? You might want to take a look at the Sydney. It’s not uncommon for us to hear customers doubting the comfortability of a wedge – convinced that there must be some inherent sacrifice made to get the look. But once again, style and comfort are not mutually exclusive! The Sydney utilises Aetrex’s Cobra Orthotic Technology which is specifically designed to take pressure off the heel, stabilising you as you walk and drawing attention away from your feet so you can concentrate on your day. Like the Vania, it features memory foam, a hidden Velcro strap, and a classic design that will work well for both every day and formal attire. You can check out the colour range here.

It’s not all summer sandals and lollypops here at Footgear though!Aetrex has a diverse range of products and if you need proof, look no further than our Mary Jane option, the Erica. If you’ve read this far, the now well-established staples of the Aetrex brand are of course ever present in this shoe. But if you’re searching for the reason this Mary Jane may be worth it over some other similar options, UltraSkyTM is the answer! This technology is all about reducing the pressure between you, your shoe, and whatever surface you’re walking on through a shock absorbent sole and an extremely cushioned innersole. This difference will be immediately noticeable the second you try it on, so if you’re near one of our stores, it might be worth popping in to check it out for yourself. Otherwise you can read more here!

WhereAetrex fits in

When we’re looking to add a new brand to our range we aren’t searching for something that will only address issues our stock is already addressing. We don’t want to sell a product that only provides what a FRANKIE4 or a Birkenstock can already provide you. Our decision to offer Aetrex is a direct answer to many of the customers who have told us they exist between those brands.

If you want a shoe that learns from you each time you step into it, but find the Birkenstock cork a little bit tough to break in, Aetrex may be for you. If you love the comfort meets style approach of a FRANKIE4 but are looking for something suited for a slightly higher arch, Aetrex is certainly an option to consider.

The Venn diagram of shoe brands that will provide you comfort may feature several names – if you’re comfortable in one of our other brands, chances are Aetrex will still be somewhat familiar territory. But if you’ve found that some orthopedic shoes are close to what you’re after but are still falling short of just right, it might be worth considering whether Aetrex’s unique data driven approach to footwear might be the difference you’re looking for.
